The third month of Islamic lunar calendar, Rabi ul Awal, marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammadﷺ, is commemorated with gaiety and devotion across the Kashmir valley.

On Saturday, gatherings were held across the valley on the arrival of the month. In Srinagar’s major Khanqahs including Makhdoom Sahab, Dastgeer Sahab and other mosques, hundreds of people attended the religious gatherings.

In Shopian, devotees reached Pinjoora grand mosque in large numbers where along with Quran Khawani, the preachers threw light on the life of Prophet Muhammadﷺ. Similar gatherings were held in main town of Shopian, Keller and other areas.

Gatherings were held in Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag and north Kashmir districts. These events unite Muslims across ethnicities, transcending tribes, races, caste and classes, as they come together to celebrate Eid Milad Un Nabi with unparalleled zeal and grandeur.

Shopkeepers and local residents are decorating their houses, shops, lanes and streets in a unique fashion with large banners, flags, lights and other decorations.

Muslims across the World commemorate Eid Milad un Nabi or Eid e Milad (12th day of Rabi ul Awal). In Kashmir, streets are decorated and mosques wear a festive look and the scale of worshippers in the mosques goes up during the month.

Demonstrations attended by tens and thousands of devotees are taken out on the 12th Rabi ul Awal throughout the valley. The Sunni community observes Eid-e-Milad on the 12th day of the month while the Shia community celebrates it on the 17th.
