The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) expressed strong concerns on January 19 regarding the celebration surrounding the construction of the Ram temple on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid, an act perpetrated by Hindu nationalists.

IAMC highlighted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is organizing a grand spectacle with over 6,000 guests, while Hindu far-right groups plan events across the United States, extending the divisive celebration.

Describing the Ram Temple as a symbol of historical injustice, particularly against Indian and global Muslims, IAMC denounced the celebration as an endorsement of the impunity enjoyed by those responsible for the demolition.

IAMC President Mohammed Jawad emphasized that the event not only consecrates the temple but also underscores the failure of the Indian judiciary to deliver justice and uphold democratic and secular values.

IAMC Executive Director Rasheed Ahmed expressed concern over the global festivities, characterizing them as a blatant endorsement of religious intolerance.

The council called upon the international community to scrutinize these developments, question the rise of Hindu fundamentalism, and advocate for a country where diversity is celebrated, not targeted.

On December 6, 1992, the historic Babri Masjid was demolished by a mob, including members and leaders of Hindutva groups such as RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, and BJP.
