‘Raped step-daughter for several months, tortured wife,’ says police in Srinagar rape case

On 06 July, Jammu Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested a man in Srinagar for raping a minor girl who was merely 15-years-old.

Earlier on Thursday, Police tweeted, “One Mohammed Iqbal Sheikh (46 years), resident of Kanthpora, Sogam Kupwara presently staying in Pamposh Colony, Srinagar arrested for raping a minor 15-year-old girl. The accused is relative of child. FIR no 92/2023 U/S 352,376,506 IPC & 3/4 POCSO act in PS Safa Kadal, Srinagar.”

In this matter, it has come to the fore on Friday that the accused is the stepfather of the minor girl and had been raping his daughter for over 18 months.

Police official, Burhan Kanth, who is investigating the case has also said that the accused also had been physically harassing his wife.

The minor girl has been sent to a mental rehabilitation center in coordination with Child Welfare Committee.

“The Police has been sent for mental, physical and medical rehabilitation. She was confident and brave to give her statement,” the Police official said.
