The Centre informed the Supreme Court today that the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates will be invalidated due to the awarding of grace marks for an incorrect question.

These candidates have been offered a re-test option scheduled for June 23, with results to follow by June 30.

The decision comes amidst allegations of widespread irregularities and unfair evaluation practices in the national medical entrance exams. Candidates who opt out of the re-test will have their previous scores considered without the grace marks.

“A committee convened on June 10-12 to investigate allegations recommended cancelling affected candidates’ scorecards and conducting a re-examination,” the Centre informed the Supreme Court.

The Court upheld its decision not to disrupt the NEET-UG 2024 counselling process, scheduled to commence on July 6 for MBBS, BDS, and other courses.

Earlier, concerns were raised over the integrity of the exams following allegations of a question paper leak and discrepancies in scoring, prompting protests and legal challenges across multiple courts.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on July 8 to address petitions seeking further actions, including potential cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 results.
