Residents suffer as water supply scheme in Tral area awaits completion since 10 years

Residents of Chewa Ullar Village in Tral complained that the Public Health Engineering department has been unable to supply piped water to them.

The residents told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a water supply scheme in the area was sanctioned about 10 years ago but due to unknown reasons it is not being made functional till now.

In absence of any water facility, residents said they are forced to drink contaminated water with the risk of waterborne disease running high.

Shakeel Ahmad, a local, said that the water supply scheme is near completion but it has not been made functional for some unknown reasons.

He said that the government is claiming that every household is connected with the Jal Jeevan mission but the area has been left out.

“We have been facing a problem since last year and brought this issue to the notice of concerned authorities dozens of times to no avail,” said Waheed Ahmad, another resident.

He said that the new water supply scheme must be made functional at the earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.

An official of the department said that there are compensation issues with land donors and they are sorting out the issue—(KNO)
