The Indian Apex Court on Tuesday granted protection to BJP leader Nupur Sharma from arrest in FIRs in connection to her comments on Prophet Mohammad ﷺ during a live TV show.

The Supreme court stated that it will correct its earlier ruling on Sharma’s petition seeking protection from arrest and clubbing of nine FIRs against her.

A Hindustan Times report quoted the bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala as saying, “We will correct it to a small extent. We never wanted you to go to every court.”

The court also issued notices to the Union government and states on her petition for clubbing of the FIRs. The case will be heard next on August 10.

Multiple FIRs had been filed against Nupur Sharma for her controversial comments on the Prophet Mohammad ﷺ made on national television.
