The Supreme Court has listed the hearing for the writ petition regarding the immediate assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir for July 06.

The petition filed by former minister and advocate Harsh Dev Singh sought the court’s intervention in restoring the democratic process in the region.

The Chief Justice of India will lead the bench hearing the case.

Singh expressed concern over the Government of India and the Election Commission of India’s lack of response on the matter, prompting him to approach the country’s highest court.

He emphasised that delaying the elections would undermine democracy and contravene the orders of the Supreme Court.

The last assembly elections were held in Jammu Kashmir in 2014. The region has been without an elected legislature since 2018.
