Shopian Encounter- One Militant, One Trooper Killed, Internet Suspended in Shopian

One MIlitant and one Army man has been killed in an encounter that started between militants and Government forces in the Dangam area of Harmain in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday evening.

An official confirming the exchange of gunfire to The Kashmiriyat said that 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police, and CRPF jointly laid a siege in Dangam area of Shopian. He said that the cordon was laid after the forces had received a tip-off about Militant movements in the area.

As soon as the forces launched the searches, the Militants opened fire on them to which the forces responded. During the exchange of gunfire, one MIlitant has been killed, while three troopers were injured, one of whom has succumbed to his injuries.

All the entry and exit points to the area have been sealed, sources said, adding “one to two more militants are believed to be holed up at the site of the encounter.”

Meanwhile, the Jammu Kashmir Police has said that they are trying their best to persuade the hiding militants to surrender.

The locals meanwhile said that the exchange of gunfire has stopped, while the searches are going on in the area.

Internet services have been suspended in the Shopian district of South Kashmir as a precautionary measure.
