The Roads in at least 20 villages of Shopian district have been in a dilapidated condition for more than a decade, despite the residents having approached the authorities several times.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, Ghulam Hassan, a resident of Batmaran area in Shopian said that the road from Batmaran- Wanpora Shopian has been in a pathetic state only due to official apathy.

The important link road here connects twenty villages with Shopian and also connects the district to Pulwama and Budgam Districts.

“We have received assurances and fake promises from the authorities, but no action has been taken so far to address our grievances,” he said.

The winter of Shopian is very harsh, it just adds to our woes, the locals have to walk for several kilometers since the road has potholes, disallowing any traffic movement in the area.

The Locals say that they have held several protests against the Administration. People of the area speaking to The Kashmiriyat demanded the immediate redressal of the issue and requested the higher ups to intervene in the problem.

The deputy commissioner Shopian Yasin Choudhary upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat assured that the work on the road will start soon.
