The increasing numbers of stray dogs in different areas of South Kashmir have become a cause of grave concern for the inhabitants of the district.
The residents said that the problem has created a serious threat to the locals with concerned authorities turning a deaf ear to the public outcry.
People from different areas of South Kashmir including Tral, Awantipora, Pulwama, Bijbehara, Anantnag, Achabal, Dooru, Qazigund, Kulgam, Pampore, Zainapora and Shopian said that herds of dogs can be seen on the prowl causing inconvenience to general public.
“The increase in the number of stray dogs is posing a grave threat to the life of people and the movement of people, especially children, elders and women has become difficult during morning and evening hours,” locals said.
Locals alleged that the mysterious rise in dog population was due to their transportation from urban areas during night hours and they have appealed the concerned authorities many times to tackle the menace at an earliest to mitigate the sufferings of the people.
“In this month only around one dozen people have got injured in the area,” they said.
“Our school going children are the most vulnerable, we are forced to stop them from attending school,” said Shakeel Ahmad, a resident of Tral—(KNO)
