Students protest after teacher arrested over sexual harassment case in Rajouri

The students of government higher secondary school Saaj staged a protest at Thanamandi Rajouri against the arrest of a teacher who was arrested over the allegations of sexual harassment.

Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that a teacher of higher secondary school Saaj Thanamandi was arrested few days ago after he was allegedly accused of sexual assault of girl students.

On Friday, the students of same higher secondary school staged a protest and raised slogans against alleged conspiracy. The protesting student alleged that the teacher was accused of a fake allegations.

They alleged that some teachers made a conspiracy against accused teacher and insisted few female students to file a complaint against teacher who was later arrested by the police.

“They offered few students money, sent them to CEO office with written application and a mobile phone,” the protesting students alleged.

Few parents also joined the protest and alleged that they came to know about the incident after their wards told them that they were sent to CEO office to file a complaint against a male teacher.

The protesters demanded high level enquiry into the matter and immediate release of the arrested teacher.

Pertinently, Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a Government teacher over charges of sexual abuse and harassment in Rajouri.

A written complaint was received by police from Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Rajouri after girl students complained the issue, they said.

“Accused Ashraf Qureshi is a Government teacher presently serving in Government Higher Secondary School Saaj in Thanamandi sub division of Rajouri district,” Police said in a statement on Sunday.

A case, FIR number 129/2023 under section 8/22 POCSO Act has been registered in Thanamandi police station, Police said.

Adding, “after several girl students of said school lodged their complaint alleging sexual abuse and harassment by the teacher.”
