Police Book Kashmiri Journalist Under Militancy case

September 01 A Kashmir based journalist Asif Sultan who works for Kashmir Narrator and has been under Police custody for the past six days has been booked in a Militancy case. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the journalist was arrested from his home during a nocturnal raid and his phone, laptop were also siezed by Jammu Kashmir Police. They said that Police barged into his room and frisked everything in his room. Police has told media that Asif has been formally arrested in recent incidents that took place in Batamaloo area of Srinagar. He was initially questioned for a cover story that he had written for a Srinagar based monthly magazine, Kashmir narrator. After Report on Kashmir, Al Jazeera may soon Disappear from Indian TVs

August 26 Al Jazeera, the international News Channel has landed into trouble likely after post it telecasted a report on the situation in Jammu Kashmir which many believe has upset the Indian Security Agencies. The Channel may soon have to stop broadcasting throughout India as the Indian Home Ministry has withdrawn the security clearance given to the Doha based English news channel. "The decision of clearance of broadcasting has to be issued or rejected by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, our role is limited to security," Times of India quoted an official from Indian Home Ministry as having said. The Official has also told the newspaper that Al Jazeera has appealed the Government to not stop the broadcasting of the news Channel. (The Kashmiriyat)

30- Mostly Islamic Channels to be Banned in Jammu Kashmir

July 18 In order to tackle the unrest in Jammu Kashmir, the state Governor has ordered the closure of 30 Pakistani and Islamic channels from cable operators of the Valley. These channels have been banned in the instructions issued by the Home Department. The Department said that these channels are in danger of peace and harmony. After the order of the Home Department, it is believed that the cable operators will meet on Wednesday and discuss the latest developments. They say that many people see these channels, so they may have to suffer loss due to state government's decision. Army Colonel Involved in the Murder of Journalist Gauri Lankesh

July 06 In a major breakthrough in the investigation to the murder of Bangalore based journalist Gauri Lankesh, the SIT probing the case suspects that four top-level leaders of a pro-Hindutva outfit were the ones who conceived the plot to kill her and other rationalists. The outfit is asserted to be the extremist cult known as the Sannatan Sanstha.
