Several parts of the Kashmir valley are observing a shutdown on Wednesday against the ongoing eviction drive in Jammu Kashmir, Press Trust of India reported. Parts of Kashmir on Wednesday, including the commercial hub of Lal Chowk, observed a shutdown against the demolition drive launched by the Jammu Kashmir administration to retrieve state land. The authorities have asked the residents to remove illegal encroachments along water bodies and "state land" in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district within 7 days or face action. According to a notice issued by Irrigation and Flood Control Department Ganderbal, if anyone fails to comply with the orders, he will be fined for violation of rules. Officials in the Watergam area of Baramulla district have issued a ten-day time to local residents to free "state land" within a period of seven days in the north Kashmir area. A notice issued in Urdu issued to the residents, of which a copy is available with The Kashmiriyat, has warned the locals of action if they do not evict the "state land" within seven days.
