Taliban Takes Control of Sixth Provincial Capital – Aibak, Confirms Deputy Governor

On Monday, the Taliban captured sixth Afghan provincial capital since Friday, last week.

The sixth provincial capital happened to be the northern city of Aibak, its deputy governor and a Taliban spokesman said.

As per a report by AFP, Sefatullah Samangani from Samangan province said that the Taliban “are in full control”, shortly after a Taliban spokesman had tweeted that all government and police installations had been “cleared.”

It is pertinent to mention that the Taliban has been speedily rising in Afghanistan, where the Afghan government has been losing ground.

On Friday, last week, the Taliban had seized their first provincial capital, Zaranj in Southwestern Nimroz on the border with Iran, the next day, on Saturday, took over Sheberghan in Northern Jawzjan province.

On Sunday, the Taliban were able to capture three district within few hours from each other in the Northern Afghanistan.
