Tangmarg youth dies of ‘cardiac arrest’ in Police custody at Shopian

A youth from north Kashmir who was recently arrested by Police in Shopian has died in the police custody.

Identified as Faizan Yasin Dar, a resident of Tarhama in Baramulla district’s Kunzer area, the youth was recently arrested by Police in a drug peddling case.

A Police Spokesperson had said that a police party from Police Post Wachi at a checkpoint established at Arwani Melhora road near Nadkadal intercepted a vehicle (Ertiga) bearing registration No. PB 01C-4543 with three persons on board who tried to flee from the spot but two accused persons were arrested on spot however, one of the accused person managed to flee from the spot.

During search, 41 grams of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered from the said vehicle.

During questioning, the arrested persons disclosed their identity as Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Akbar Dar resident of Nasrullah Pora Budgam and Faizan Yaseen Dar son of Mohd Yaseen Dar resident of Nawab Bazar Srinagar A/P Tarhama Kunzar, police had said.

An official confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that one of the accused Faizan suffered a cardiac arrest in police custody.

Faizan was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

The official said that the doctors confirmed cardiac arrest as the cause of death.

He said that a post mortem has been conducted by the doctors and the body will be handed over to his legal heirs.
