Teenage girl alleges harassment after denying sexual favour to Reasi teacher

A 10th-class student alleged that she was harassed at a government school after she denied “sexual favours” to a teacher in the Reasi area of Jammu Kashmir.

Speaking to the media, the father of the minor girl said that on October 12, a teacher posted in the school invited the teenager to his room and after she denied the teacher forced his entry into her classroom during the lunch break when the other students were out for lunch break. “I was doing my homework when he forced himself upon me and tore my clothes and also bit me on my body,” the 15-year-old girl said.

She said that when the teacher bit her, she shouted loudly. “When I shouted, the students and the teachers rushed to the classroom. Upon noticing that people had gathered outside the classroom, he pulled me out of the classroom and threw me on the floor, and started kicking me,” she said.

I went to the headmaster of the school and narrated the entire incident to him after which the headmaster summoned the teacher. “I was standing there, when the teacher said, ‘She is a poor girl, they are lower class people, What harm can they do to us,” she said.

The headmaster threatened me that the school will terminate me and also issue a ‘bad character certificate’ rather than helping me, she said.

Father of the teenage girl has also registered a complaint against the accused and asked Police to investigate the matter.

He said that the teacher is being backed by influential people in Reasi. “Nobody will support us. We are just poor and who gives poor any ear or importance,” he asked.

Meanwhile, as per media reports that reached The Kashmiriyat, the Jammu Kashmir Police in its statement has said that they are investigating the matter. “As of now, it appears that the girl has made false accusation against the teacher,” the Police has said.
