The Jammu Kashmir Police claimed to have made a major breakthrough in the murder case of renowened Human Rights lawyer, Syed Babar Qadri and said the order to assassinate the lawyer came from the Central Jail of Srinagar.
Earlier, the Jammu Kashmir Police had arrested three persons in the case, who as per the Police, said that the order for his assassination September 24 came from ‘central jail, Srinagar.’
The Investigation by Jammu Kashmir Police’s Special team has found that two individuals named Muneer Aziz War alias Qari, son of one Abdul Aziz War of Hutmulla area in Kupwara and Tawseef Ahmed Shah son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah of Parimpora area in Srinagar passed orders from inside the central jail to the three to murder Babar Qadri.
The two individuals, who have been taken into custody were in jail for a stone-pelting and murder case. The police are also investigating if they received orders from someone outside the jail to carry out Qadri’s assassination.
Police had earlier arrested three accused in the killing of Qadri who been identified as Shahid Shafi Mir of Khanyar in Srinagar, Zahid Farooq Khan of Nowhatta in Srinagar and Asif Bhat of Rehmania Colony in Srinagar.
They were arrested by the Speical Insvestigation Team contituted by Jammu Kashmir Police, a day after the killing of Qadri on September 24 this year by the Inspector General of Police IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar. The SIT is headed by the SP Hazratbal.
The Jammu Kashmir Police has said that Zahid Farooq Khan was a chronic stone pelter and detained under Public Safety Act in August 2019 and was released recently. Tauseef Shah is jailed in a militancy-related case and Muneer in a murder case.
Qadri was shot dead at his Hawal residence on September 24, by two masked men who entered his house posing as clients. They reportedly told Qadri that they wanted to discuss an accident-related matter, but took out pistols and fired at him.
