Three including two Anantnag residents arrested in Jammu encounter case: Police

The Jammu Kashmir Police on Saturday evening attested two persons on accusation of being involved in the Sunjwan Encounter case.

According to Jammu Kashmir Police, the arrests were made from the Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and the duo has been identified as Bilal Wagay and Ishfaq Chopan.

“The duo are drivers and conductors of vehicles that ferried Jaish Fidayeen from Supwala in Samba to Sunjwan in Jammu, a day before they attack CISF Bus in the same area,” Police claimed.

Earlier in the day, Jammu Police arrested a guide of these two militants, identified as Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Tral in south Kashmir.

“On 22nd April 2022, 02 suicide attacker were killed in an encounter in sunjwa Jammu. During the course of investigation of case conducted under sections 302/307/120-B, 121-A IPC, 7/27 Arms Act & 16/18/20 ULA of P/S Bahu Fort Jammu, Jammu Kashmir Police arrested one person namely Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh S/o Ghulam Mohd Sheikh R/o Mir Mohalla, Tral, who had facilitated the stay of militants in Jalalabad area of Jammu,” ADG Singh said.

He further said that on disclosure of the Shafiq, one person namely Mohd Iqbal Rather from Kulgam in whose residence at Jalalabad, the militants had hidden also stands detained.

The analysis of the mobile tower, as well as the internet data usage of the general area, led to suspicion of a person by name of Bilal Ahmed Beig of Anantnag, who had received the terrorists on the border and brought them to the Jalalabad area, which was further received by Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh.

​​ADG Singh also said, “Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh further revealed that his brother Asif Ahmed Shiekh helped in finding a place for accommodation of terrorists as well as provided mobile phones to the terrorists. The technical analysis of the CCTVs in Jalalabad area, as well as Highway, corroborates the above-mentioned facts”.
