Two girls were killed and another person injured when their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge along the Handwara-Bangus road, officials reported on Monday.
The victims were on a picnic and are believed to be siblings, though their exact relationship has not been confirmed. The vehicle overturned before falling into the gorge.
One of the deceased has been identified as Saba Shafi, the daughter of Mohammad Shafi Baba from Pantha Chowk, Srinagar.
The other two individuals, Aliza and Nooran Ahmad Baba, sustained injuries. They were initially taken to NTPHC Qalamabad and later referred to GMC Handwara for further treatment.
Despite efforts to save her, Aliza succumbed to her injuries shortly after admission, while Nooran Ahmad remains hospitalized and is receiving treatment.
