Two more earthquakes hit Jammu Kashmir

Two more earthquakes hit Jammu Kashmir early on Monday morning.

Locals around the Chenab region and parts of Kashmir valley felt the tremors, however, no damage has been reported from the two earthquakes.

According to National Centre for Seismology, the ist earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale was felt around 5:38 am.

The epicentre of the earthquake was  33.15°N / 75.68°E in the Doda district of Jammu Kashmir with a mere depth of 10 km.

The second quake was felt around 5:34 AM, locals told The Kashmiriyat.

According the NCS, the magnitude of the second earthquake was 3.6 with a shallow depth of 8 KM inside the earth. The epicentre of the earthquake was 33.15°N / 75.7°E in Chenab valley’s Doda district.

Frequent earthquakes have been occuring in Jammu Kashmir, which has raised concerns among environmental experts and geologists.

Geologists points towards unplanned developmental works in the region and say that the same could lead to a major catastrophe.
