Five Vehicles to be Seized Under UAPA in Kashmir

The Jammu Kashmir Police’s Director-General of Police (DGP), Dilbagh Singh has approved seizure of five vehicles under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) which were reportedly used for pro Militancy activities in the Budgam and Kulgam districts of the Kashmir valley.

The DGP has approved the seizure of the five vehicles under the Section 25 UAPA, 1967, a police spokesman said on Friday.

Detailing further about the charges, he said that in Kulgam, on April 24, 2020, Police Station Yaripora received a docket from In charge Police post Frisal that one police Constable namely Sartaj Ahmad Itoo son of Ghulam Mohammad Itoo, a resident of Shirpora Frisal in Kulgam was kidnapped by some unknown militants.

In this matter, a case under was registered in the Police station of Yaripora in Kulgam district of South Kashmir under the relevant sections of law and investigation took up. During the course of investigation, a search operation was launched by JK police along with other agencies in Kharpora area of Frisal in Kulgam to nab the militants who were reportedly moving in a Santro vehicle.

Subsequently, a Santro vehicle was intercepted and on being stopped by Government forces the militant sitting in the vehicle came out and started firing indiscriminately on security forces. The fire was retaliated and the two militants were neutralized on spot, the kidnapped policeman was rescued safely, and driver namely Irfan Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Hamid Dar resident of Wandena Shopian was detained and the vehicle was taken into possession.

He said a huge quantity of arms/ammunition and explosive substances were recovered. It was established that the vehicle was used to facilitate the movement of militants from one place to another, as such falls within the ambit of proceeds of terrorism and is accordingly liable to be seized.
