Unprecedented heatwave hits Kashmir, Mercury crosses all-time high

Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C, which is 6.0°C above normal.

This is the 2nd highest maximum temperature ever recorded in September since 1891 when the weather observatory was established. Earlier the highest temperature recorded in September was 33.8°C which was recorded on 01 September 1970.

The all time highest temperature has been recorded at 35.0°C which was on the 18 September 1934, acording to Kashmir weather.

In Qazigund, Kashmir Weather said, today’s maximum temperature was 33.2°C which is 6.7°C above normal. The previous record was 32.8°C on 12 September 2019.

In Kokernag, the highest temperature recorded was 32.0°C which is a spike of 6.6 degrees from Normal. Today’s temperature broke the previous record of 31.8°C recorded on 02 September 2023

Kupwara recorded 33.8°C, Baramulla = 32.3°C, Bandipora = 33.2°C, Budgam = 33.2°C, Pulwama = 31.8°C, Shopian = 33.8°C, Kulgam = 31.1°C, Anantnag = 32.8°C and Sonamarg = 29.5°C.
