Residents of Nowgam Sumbal in Bandipora said that initially, the accused leader promised us that he will give jobs to the local residents if they join BJP, after we did, he sought money for jobs- the money never came, nor did the jobs.

During the two meetings, he held with the residents, the BJP leader extorted 29,500, 15,000, and 15,000 from three local residents identified as Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar, Mohammed Jafar Zadoo, and Ghulam Hussain Malik.

It was around eight months ago that Mohammed Afzal Dar from Sumbul joined the Bhartiya Janta party along with several residents of the village.  Speaking to The Kashmiriyat over the phone, Afzal said, “He canceled his first meeting with us after which I invited him to my own house. I invited my relatives, neighbours and friends to the event. Many people joined the meeting.”

During the meeting, Afzal said, the BJP leader asked people if anyone among the local female residents needed jobs in the Anganwadi sector. “One (Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar) among those attending the meeting stood up and said that his daughter is 10+2 and she is also eligible for the Anganwadi job. He (Naseer) asked the man to wait for him till the meeting is finished. After the meeting was over, the BJP leader asked the man seeking a job for his daughter that it might require some money to avail the job,” Afzal, who claimed to be an eyewitness to the incident said.

He told Ghulam Mohiuddin to arrange 35,000 rupees. Narrating the incident, Afzal said, “A few days later, I accompanied Mohiuddin to Naseer Lone, but he(Mohiuddin) was only able to arrange 29,500 rupees. He told us that it will take another 5-6 days to get the appointment.”

During the second meeting in our village, he (Naseer) said there were vacancies in the health department and if there were any eligible candidates from the village. “In the same manner, he minted fifteen (15) thousand from them, but they never got the job, nor did they get their money back,” he said.

Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar’s daughter also did not get the job. “We visited him constantly, but he never returned any of the money,” Afzal said.

Now all the villagers are asking Afzal for money, because they know Naseer through Afzal. “The residents have been coming to my house seeking money from me, I have been asking Naseer for money, but he has been delaying it for nearly eight months,” Afzal said.

He sought the intervention of BJP’s high command and the Police into the matter.

The Kashmiriyat tried to reach the Bhartiya Janta Party leader for his comments over the issue, however, his phone could not be reached.
