Notwithstanding its tall claims over providing basic facilities to the people, the residents of Darazpora Turkawangam village in Shopian district in South Kashmir are reeling under darkness for the last two years.

The local residents while talking to The Kashmiriyat said the transmission lines and transformer was installed by the Power Development Department (PDD) two years ago but still our village is deprived of basic facilities like electricity.”

The locals have demanded the government to provide them electricity which is a basic need.

“The education of our children is getting badly affected as they are not able to charge their mobile phones and attend online classes due to non-availability of electricity in our village,” said a local.

Another local said that the electricity is the basic need and almost every work is dependent on electricity but we are facing many hardships due to non-availability of electricity.

The locals have appealed to authorities to look into the matter and redress their grievance and provide them electricity.

Meanwhile PDD offiials said, “the project is taken over by the Power Grid Corporation of India and almost over 90% work is completed. Once the work is done, the area will be connected with Lassipora receiving station.”
