A video of a village in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district has gone viral over the social media in which a large group of people is seen taking an oath to boycott ‘Muslim shopkeepers’ and refrain from indulging in any commercial transactions with Muslims.

The Chhattisgarh police have ordered an inquiry into the incident and appealed to the people of the village not to participate in any such gatherings.

The video went viral on social media on Thursday after a fight broke out between people of two villages in Surguja and the Balrampur districts a few days back.

In the video, people are seen saying, ‘From today we Hindus take a pledge that no Muslim shopkeeper will buy and sell any kind of goods. Those hawkers who come to our village, come to our area, after checking them if they are Hindu, then they will buy, otherwise, they will not.’

Sarguja ASP Vivek Shukla said, “As soon as we received the complaint, I and other senior officials reached the village and explained that some people are trying to give a communal colour to the issue and the villagers should not get caught up in it.”
