The Executive Magistrate has issued a warrant to a news agency ‘The Kokernag news’ for their imbalanced reportage over a demolition drive in the Godal area of Anantnag’s Kokernag belt.
As per the notice issued by the Tehsildar Kokernag, under section 107 and section 151 of Crpc, “you are directed to appear in the court of undersigned within one day failing to which necessary action under rules shall be initiated against you.”
“As per the videos circulated on social media by your news agency regarding sealing of Darululoom Hazratikhatijat-ul Kubra at Gadole, you have repeatedly circulated only one side of the story which clearly goes against the guidelines issued by press council of India regarding media ethics,” the notice read.

The Tehsildar speaking to The Kashmiriyat had stated that there was no force from the side of the officials and that the seminary was built on state land and that two rooms were merely locked. The Tehsildar had also said that the Revenue department had served several notices to the Seminary asking them to wind up the construction work.
After the drive, which was launched on Friday, the news agency had reported the protests and the allegations raised by seminary inmates.
“Whereas the unbalanced reporting has created a false narrative amongst the general public and has defamed the office of undersigned. Whereas due to unbalanced reporting by your news channel, there is every apprehension of adverse effect on law and order situation,” the notice read.
