In a continuation of aggression and violence against Muslims in India, A Muslim youth was beaten ruthlessly by a group of men in Delhi, hours after he succumbed to his injuries.
The Delhi Police said that a 20-year-old identified as Mohammed Sarfaraz was nabbed by a group of men, who took him to a factory and thrashed him with sticks.
The incident took place on Saturday night in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area.
On Sunday morning, Sarfaraz was found unconscious after which he was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
“Sarfaraz’s brother went out for a walk near their house when the accused picked him up. The family came to know about the incident from their neighbours. He was thrashed on suspicion of theft,” his brother told the police.
So far, two identified as Amit and Videsh have been arrested and two other accused have been identified.
In the present month, three Muslims have been lynched so far while three others survived the police brutality and mob violence. A 100-year-old mosque was also razed to the ground by authorities in Uttar Pradesh.
Asif Khan, a Muslim gym trainer from Mewat in Haryana, was lynched after allegedly being forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by a group of Hindutva militants on 16 May.
In the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, a teenager named Faisal Husain was allegedly beaten to death by policemen on 21 May.
In Hyderabad, Mohammed Subhan, a driver by profession was allegedly tortured by traffic police personnel at a police station in Shamshabad near the Hyderabad Airport on the outskirts of the city.
Mohammed Shakir was assaulted by a person, identified as Manoj Thakur, and other cow vigilantes in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district on 16 May.
Shaikh Mohammad, a shopkeeper, was assaulted on an allegedly false accusation of misbehaving with a woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur.
A 100-year-old mosque was also demolished by authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on 17 May. Suspecting protests, the UP Police arrested various politicians and local Muslims.
