It is part of the Islamic faith to be passionate about anything that demonstrates the superiority and dominance of Islam. As such, we understand why Muslims feel empowered by such a TV series.

The power of media can easily bring our past back to the present and influence the future, which has recently been proven by the Turkish drama serial, “Diriliş: Ertuğrul” (Resurrection: Ertuğrul). The magnitude of this drama series is such that it transcends not just the historical period from 1200-1300 to 2020, but it can climb the borders of its home country, only to become a global favorite, achieving worldwide fame and repute like none other. A lot has been said in praise of this series’ successful attempt at engaging the attention of a wide range of viewership. This article also aims at highlighting some very noteworthy attributes of the series, which happen to be its greatest strengths.

Many Muslim Scholars from the Wahabi school of thought have opposed the drama and said that watching the Drama is Haraam, however many prominent scholars worldwide have come to the rescue and said watching the Drama is a duty of every Muslim throughout the world.

Mufti Haneef Qureshi, a prominent scholar from Pakistan speaking in defense of the Drama said that every Muslim must watch the drama as it reflects the golden period of Islam-the ottoman empire, when the world was learning from the Muslims. “I do not understand why some Muslims want the drama to be banned, when Hadith and Quran have been quoted most of the times in the drama.”

Haneef Qureshi says that it is amazing to see that only those nations where Islam is being suppressed, only those nations have banned it. “Scholars must open up and not keep in view their individual interests, they must see that Muslims are suffering throughout the world, but Dramas as such can inspire us towards Love, knowledge and truth and keep us away from radicalism.”

“How ironic is that Indian serials and gambling centers are opened in Saudi, but serials which promote Islamic and the truth are banned,” he said.

The Scholar says that the Series also teaches us, how important the love for nation, the mother, and the old and the young is important, the life of Prophet is displayed in a correct manner, the serial aims at inculcating the right beliefs. “i think the main problem is the radicalized form of Islam is what wants it, because it has displayed Islam in its real sense”.
