Adeeba Riyaaz, an 11 years old girl, from Batengu, Anantnag has published her first book a few days ago. Adeeba, while conversing with The Kashmiriyat said that she is a grade 7 student and that had thought of writing a book long before she finally became a published author.

Adeeba told The Kashmiriyat that during the lockdown period, she had participated in an essay writing competition organized by the D.C. Anantnag pertaining to the pandemic, in which she had bagged an award and was facilitated by the D.C., himself. She says that this particular incident instilled in her the confidence that she could write.

“I recognized then that I had a flair for writing and hence, I began writing. I finished the scripting of my book within 11 days,” Adeeba said. She added that she has also added her writings from sixth grade into the book.

Adeeba told The Kashmiriyat that she’s co-authored eleven anthologies. She is a blogger and also has a website of her own. Her book ‘Zeal of Pen’ is available at seven online platforms including Amazon.

She says that she believes a person can live on even after death if they pass on their thoughts and knowledge through books. She says that she’s had strong support from her parents and teachers throughout her life.

To the other parents, she says that they must allow their children whatever they desire to, and not coerce them or force them into something they do not desire. She says that it’s a common practice in Kashmir that parents do not support their children in their ventures thinking it isn’t good for their future, which was wrong. She says parents must be supportive of children wanting to pursue careers of their choice.

Adeeba also said that she would continue with her passion for writing. Although since her first book has been published, she hasn’t written anything so far. But she intends to write more, “so it can be of help for others, too,” she says.

In conversation with The Kashmiriyat, Adeeba said that she prefers the non-fiction genre and her book was non-fiction, as well. “I’ve penned down my life experiences in the book and I want to write whatever happens in the society I live in,” she adds.

In her message to others, she says that people should recognize their talent first, which is very difficult but important. “Everyone has some talent and we need to recognize it,” Adeeba said, adding “And as soon as you recognize the talent, you must act upon nurturing the talent.”

“One can become a doctor or an engineer, as per the desire of their parents, but what is the fun of life if one doesn’t follow one’s own desires?” she says.

And when asked what she’d want to be once she’s grown up, she says that she could accomplish anything, be it becoming a doctor or an engineer “but what I really want to accomplish is being a human. I want to work for the betterment of humanity.”
