The Jammu Kashmir Police, on Sunday, seized a huge containment of medicinal plants and arrested five persons in Kangan area of Ganderbal district.
An official told The Kashmiriyat said that Police after receiving credible inputs about dumping of huge consignment of medicinal plants in a godown located in main town Kangan, constituted a team.
He said approximately 40 bags of medicinal plants weighing 1102 kg were recovered when the team headed by SHO Kangan under the and under the directions of SSP Ganderbal raided the place.
The five arrested persons were identified as Javaid Ahmad Wani S/O Mohammad Yousuf Wani R/O Kangan, Mohammad Aslam Khataria S/O Sawaria Khataria R/O Chatergul, Showket Ahmad Badhana S/O Bashir Ahmad Badhana R/O Chattergul, Mohammad Ishfaq Khatana S/O Ghulam Nabi Khatana R/O Chattergul and Ghulam Nabi Khatana S/O Mehendia Khatana R/O Gohad Rajouri.
Meanwhile, Police have registered a case vide FIR No 111/2021 U/S 379 IPC, 26 Forest Act in Police Station Kangan and investigation into the matter is going on.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the second such recovery in less than a week after Sh Nikhil Borkar-IPS assumed charge as SSP Ganderbal. On Friday smuggling of medicinal plants was foiled by Police in Gund area.
