A 13-year-old mentally challenged girl was raped by 10 persons, including two minor, for over two months in Meghalaya.
The incident came to light after an FIR was lodged by the girl’s family at the Resubelpara police station on Saturday.
As per reports, the crime was witnessed by the wife of an accused and she informed the village elders about it.
Following this, the family of the girl came to know about the trauma which their daughter was facing since two months.
A PTI report states that the family of the girl was called for a meeting by the village heads to discuss over a compromise. However, the family refused to it and lodged an FIR.
The accused include two minors and eight adults who are married. All hailed from the same village of Haluapara under Resubelpara police station.
“It appears that they took turns to rape the girl at various times and at various locations in the village. The accused even confessed to their crime at the meeting held in the village,” circle inspector of Resubelpara police station GK Sangma was quoted as saying by PTI.
