A 17-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping into Aharbal waterfall in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said on Friday.
They said the girl identified (name with held), a resident of Sadipora Payeen area of Shopain district appeared near Aharbal waterfall and in no time she jumped into it.
“A search and rescue operation was launched by rescuers and locals immediately, but the youth couldn’t be saved,” they said.
A senior police officer told the Kashmiriyat that after strenuous efforts the body of the girl was fished out by Police personnel and locals.
He further added that after completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to relatives for last rites.
Notably, on 4 July this month a 24-year-old mentally ill youth identified as Arif Rather, resident of Sunigam Kulgam also allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Aharbal waterfall.
