
Two Pakistani militants of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Mirhama area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district police said on Sunday.
Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that based on specific input regarding the presence of militants in the Mirhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir, a cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces on Saturday.
As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot during the operation, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately at it, which was retaliated effectively leading to a gunbattle, they said.
In the ensuing encounter, two militants of JeM outfit were killed and their bodies retrieved from the site, the official said. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said the slain militants were Pakistani nationals and belonged to the JeM outfit.
“Both the killed JeM militants are Pakistani. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 02 AK rifles, 7 AK magazines, 9 grenades etc were recovered from their possession,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar tweeted.
“The killed JeM #terrorists have been identified as Sultan Pathan & Zabiullah, both residents of #Pakistan. They were #categorised terrorists & active since year 2018 in the areas of #Kulgam-#Shopian districts, “IGP said in another tweet.
