Yaswanth Sinha Quits BJP

April 21 Former finance minister and BJP veteran Yashwant Sinha has announced his decision to quit the party, ending months of speculation during which he made scathing comments against the Narendra Modi government.  Making the announcement in Patna, Sinha said he would not be joining any political party, but work towards “protecting democracy”. Sinha took parting shots at the Modi government, saying it did not let Parliament run during Budget Session. “I can say with full responsibility that the Indian government did not let the House run. The government did not care that the Budget Session was being stalled as the PM did not call a single meeting with the opposition to discuss their issues,” said Sinha.

Windstorm Creates Havoc in South Kashmir Areas

April 21 Beg Fayaz/ Peer imtiyaz Friday afternoon unexpected wind storm disturbed normal life in the various regions of Kashmir especially; Shangas zone of South Kashmir's Islamabad District. The Storm caused damage to the residential houses, cow sheds, business establishments and trees. Clashes Erupt in Pulwama, Budgam

April 21 Clashes erupted between youth and government forces in Muran area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. Scores of youth threw stones on a Survey team of Indian Army at Murran area of in south Kashmir, Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat. The protesting youth threw stones on the government forces resulting in clashes. Meanwhile clashes also erupted in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir's Budgam District to protest the Killings. Troops deployed in the area used force to disperse the protesting students, however the clashes were going on in both the areas when this report was being filed.

Classwork to remain suspended in Islamabad colleges, Read District wise list

April 20 After protests by students accross the Kashmir valley to demand justice for the 8 year old rape victim, the authorities in Kashmir have decided to suspend Classwork in many parts of the valley. Read the district wise list below:- The classwork in Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools of Islamabad town and Bijbehara Town shall remain suspended tomorrow on 21st April. Poor Airtel Service Irks Srinagar Residents

April 20 Firdous Qadri The telecom company Airtel subscribers at Sonwar area of Srinagar city facing difficulties due to poor network for the past few months. Airtel users are complaining that they are facing issues like call drops, connection breaks, inconsistent speed, non availability of proper 4G speed etc. Due to poor internet services, the students, professionals including journalists and businessmen are worst hit. CASO in Pulwama area, Clashes Erupt

April 20 Jahangeer Ganie A Cordon and Search Operation has been launched by Government Forces in Chandgam area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District. As soon as the Anti Militancy Operation was launched by Forces, scores of youth hit the streets shouting pro Freedom slogans, A local told The Kashmiriyat. Officials confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir police and CRPF launched the operation after receiving specific inputs about presence of Militants in the area. Meanwhile the troops fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting youth. The youth made announcements on mosque loudspeakers asking others to come out. The search operation and the clashes were going on when this report was filed.

The recent reports indicate a sharp increase in the number of local youth joining militant ranks in the Valley. According to the police reports, one youth every third day joins the militant ranks. The figure of local youth joining militancy in 2017 was 126, a sharp increase from 88 in 2016. This is the highest in the past seven years. The numbers began to increase after the violent summer of 2016, post the killing of Hizbul commander, Burhan Wani. April 20 High speed mobile Internet services will be restored in Kashmir today evening after remaining blocked for the whole day. The services were snapped early morning and were reduced down at a few places as a preventive measure/ Mobile Internet services will be restored late evening today, a Telecom official told The Kashmiriyat.

Indian flag Burnt Down in London

April 20 An Indian flag was burnt down in Central London yesterday while the London Metropolitan Police quietly watched the flag burning taking place right before its eyes. The incident took place at Parliament Square as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was addressing the Indian community at Westminster on Wednesday. Indian activists are outraged over the London Metropolitan Police turning a blind eye to the Indian flag being pulled down from a pole and replaced by a flag representing Indian Administered Kashmir and Khalistan. The Indian tricolour was allegedly pulled down and ripped apart by a a pro-Khalistani activist.
