167% Increase in Civilian Deaths in Kashmir

April 19 A Report release by Ministry of Home affairs has claimed that Civilian deaths in Jammu Kashmir rose by a staggering 167% last year compared to 2015. The army and state police has claimed that most of the civilian deaths happened due to their interference during counter-insurgency operations. But human rights activists and groups have been accusing excessive use of force by Government Forces personnel the cause for increase in the deaths. “The year 2017 witnessed an increase in incidents of terrorist violence and causalities of civilians as compared to the last year. Thackrey Demand Sharia Like Law Against Rapists

April 19 Demanding speedy action in the case of rape and murder of a minor girl, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has demanded a Sharia-like law to prevent heinous crimes against women and children. Thackeray said the “hands and legs of those who molested and killed minors and women should be cut off.” “Our legal procedures are cumbersome and the final judgment is a long time in coming. This indirectly boosts the courage of criminals,” he said.

Pulwama CASO Called off after Massive Clashes

April 19 (Image Used for Representation) Skinger Gul The CASO launched in Jamia Mohalla Malangpora of South Kashmir's Pulwama District has been called after nothing was found in the area. The Government forces including RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF had laid down the cordon and Search operation jointly. "The Operation was called off after troopers conducted Search Operations, but nothing was found," Sources told The Kashmiriyat. Massive clashes had also erupted in the area.

Clashes Erupt in Keller

April 19 (Image Used for Representation) Jahangeer Ganie Massive clashes erupted between protesting students and Government Forces in Keller area of Shopian about 15 Kilometers away from main town of Shopian, Sources told The Kashmiriyat. Eyewitnesses said that scores of students from Keller shouting slogans to demand punishment to the culprits of Asifa case upon reaching Police station keller threw stones on the Police station. The Police fired tear smoke shells on the students , after which massive clashes began. The Clashes were going on when this report was filed. Clashes had also begun in Shopian's Main town where a few people have also sustained injuries. Reportedly, The Government Forces fired in the air to disperse the protesting students.

Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir arrested for Second time in Less than a week

April 19 The Chairman of Ummat e Islami and Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir has been arrested yet again by the Police. A Police party raided the residence of Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir in South Kashmir around 1130 pm on Wednesday night and arrested him. He was later lodged in Police Station Sadr in Islamabad. Pertinently he had been released on Sunday night after being arrested on Friday post leading a pro Freedom rally in Khudwani. The Ummat e Islami has condemned the arrest of Mirwaiz Qazi yasir and demanded the immediate release of all the youth who have been arrested during the protests that erupted in the town on Wednesday.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF laid down the Search operation jointly. Early Morning Clashes in Shopian

Some of the students threw stones on Troops deployed in the area who fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting students, hence triggering clashes. Protests have also erupted in Batpora area of the South Kashmir District. The authorities had ordered closure of schools in many parts of Kashmir as a preventive measure as protests have been going on to demand Justice for Asifa, the 8 year old rape victim.

April 18 Seven persons have been injured in the clashes that began early morning on Wednesday in South Kashmir’s Islamabad town. Eye witnesses told The Kashmiriyat, the Jammu Kashmir Police picked up several shopkeepers, Airtel, HDFC employees near Women’s College of Islamabad. Meanwhile the Government Forces used Aerial firing to disperse the protesting students. A Shopkeeper in Sarnal Bala area alleged that Forces thrashed him and also damaged the goods inside the shop.
