Clashes Erupted in Srinagar’s Nowgam

April 06 Massive Clashes erupted in Nowgam area of Srinagar on Friday to denounce the Shopian Killings. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that clashes erupted between government forces and Protesters in the Nowgam area after Friday prayers. The Youth in the area gathered and threw stones on the Government troopers deployed in the area. The troopers deployed in the area fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.

Kulgam Policeman Extorted Money from Locals, Arrested

April 06 A Jammu Kashmir Police Personnel of Kulgam was arrested today on charges of extorting money from Locals in Kulgam District of South Kashmir. As per Police three people headed by Armed Policeman, Parvez Bhat, Son of Mohammed Maqbool Bhat, Ponew Kulgam of South Kashmir’s Kulgam was arrested today. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that he has been arrested along with two other people as they used to make people sign cheques and extorted money on Gunpoint from Civilians. The Policeman has been serving the department for the past twelve years.  Bilal Ahmed Dar Son of Ghulam Mohuddin Dar of Ganjipora, Kulgam and  Nazir Dar of Yarikha Kulgam has also been detained. The DSP HQ of South Kashmir’s Kulgam confirmed that the three have been arrested on the charges of extortion.

Srinagar Leh highway opens for vehicular movement after 4 Months

April 05 Rayees Shah After remaining closed for near about four months, Srinagar-Leh highway was  thrown open for vehicular traffic today. A miss communication between District administration Ganderbal and Border Roads organization. (BRO) took place on Friday over opening of the Srinagar-Leh highway. BRO officials said Srinagar-Leh highway has been opened for vehicular traffic today, however Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Piyush Singla said order in this regard was not issued by Div Com Kashmir. April 05 Skinder Gul Firing has stopped at the ongoing Encounter in Kangan area of South Kashmir's Pulwama. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that 55 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly launched the operation. Massive clashes erupt near Encounter site In Pulwama

April 05 Skinder Gul Massive clashes erupted near Encounter site in Kangan Murran area of Pulwama in South Kashmir. Local Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Scores of youth have hit the streets in kangan to disrupt the Anti Militancy Operation. The youth shouting Pro Islam, Pro Freedom and Pro Militancy slogans came out on the streets. The protesters were trying to march towards the encounter site, however the troops deployed in the area fired smoke shells to disperse the protesters. heavy Firing was going on, two to three Militants are believed to be firing at Government Forces.

Clashes in Beerwah, Palhalan

April 05 Clashes erupted between youth and government forces in Pallahalan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday. Scores of youth protested in Palhallan area against the civilian killings in south Kashmir, Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat. The protesting youth threw stones on the government forces resulting in clashes. Meanwhile clashes also erupted in Adina Magam area of Central Kashmir's Budgam District to protest the Killings. Troops deployed in the area amidst shutdown used force to disperse the protesters, however the clashes were going on in both the areas when this report was being filed.

Protest at Aligarh Muslim University against Kashmir Killings

April 05 Scores of Students of Aligarh Muslim University today held a protest against civilians in Kashmir valley. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that students raising slogans gathered at the university premises to denounce the Killings in Kashmir. 'Holding placards and raising pro Kashmir slogans the students demanded an end to the ongoing killing spree in Kashmir," the eyewitness said. on Sunday 17 Kashmiris were killed, including 13 Militants in South Kashmir.

Militant injured in gunfight arrested in Kupwara

April 06 Government forces on Friday claimed to have arrested a militant in injured condition from Juktiyal area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The militant believed to be a foreigner was injured in a gunfight that claimed 10 lives including five militants, three soldiers and two policemen at Check Fateh Khan of Haihama last month. The militant had reportedly escaped in injured condition from the woods of Check Fateh Khan where gunfight raged for two days after starting on March 20. The militant was apprehended during a cordon-and-search operation at Turshan area of Juktiyal. Prior to militant’s arrest, the joint team of army and SOG had made announcements asking people to come out of their homes, fearing a gunfight.
