Weapon Snatching Bid Foiled in Shopian

August 18 Suspected Militants early morning on Saturday fired at the guard post of National Conference Member, Showkat Ahmed Ganie at Chitragam in South Kashmir's Shopian. Police officials confirming the attack to The Kashmiriyat said that the incident took place around 4:30 am in the morning, but the alert guards opened fire on the Militants forcing them to escape. Nobody was injured in the attack, he said.

August 17 Intense Clashes erupted in Bhan area of South Kashmir's Kulgam District on Friday night when youth threw stones on Forces passing through the area. August 17 A civilian who was earlier injured in a grenade explosion near the SP office in Awantipora in South Kashmir has succumbed to his injuries. One Army Soldier Killed in Handwara Encounter- Full Story

August 17 Shabir Khan An army soldier was killed in a brief gunfight at Kralgund area of Handwara in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday morning. A police Official told The Kashmiriyat that 32 RR of Indian Army launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) at Kachlu village during wee hours of Friday. As soon as the troops intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a brief gunfight, he told adding that an army soldier suffered critical bullet wounds and was shifted to nearby military hospital for treatment.
