Weapon Snatching Bid Foiled in Shopian

August 18 Suspected Militants early morning on Saturday fired at the guard post of National Conference Member, Showkat Ahmed Ganie at Chitragam in South Kashmir's Shopian. Police officials confirming the attack to The Kashmiriyat said that the incident took place around 4:30 am in the morning, but the alert guards opened fire on the Militants forcing them to escape. Nobody was injured in the attack, he said.

August 17 Unknown gunmen shot dead a 40 year old woman in Drabgam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district in Friday afternoon. Identified as Shameema wife of Ali Mohammed Bhat was shot at her parental home at Drabgam village. Family members told The Kashmiriyat she came to Drabgam today morning and in afternoon some gunmen barged into house of her brother and fired upon her. Later they tried to shift her to hospital however she succumbed on the way. Her dead body was later shifted to Koil village of Pulwama district where she was laid to rest. Intense Stone Throwing Erupt in Bhan Kulgam

August 17 Intense Clashes erupted in Bhan area of South Kashmir's Kulgam District on Friday night when youth threw stones on Forces passing through the area. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that scores of youth threw stones on a patrolling party of Government Forces after which forces swung into action and fired tear smoke shells at the protesters. The protesters regrouped in massive numbers and continued stone throwing, meanwhile reports suggest that three youth have been arrested from the Bhan locality in Quimoh area of Kulgam. Local Imam Arrested with Fukki in North Kashmir

August 17 Sajad Hameed In another shocking incident, the Jammu Kashmir Police arrested the Imam of a Masjid Imam allegedly for Drug Dealing in Pattan area of North Kashmir's Baramulla District. Civilian Injured in Awantipora Grenade Attack Succumbs

August 17 A civilian who was earlier injured in a grenade explosion near the SP office in Awantipora in South Kashmir has succumbed to his injuries. Earlier Unknown persons hurled a grenade at the office of Superintendent of Police in Awantipora on Friday afternoon resulting in injuries to two persons, one of them has been critically wounded. A Police official posted in Awantipora confirmed the attack to The Kashmiriyat and said that one civilian had sustained serious injuries. One Army Soldier Killed in Handwara Encounter- Full Story

August 17 Shabir Khan An army soldier was killed in a brief gunfight at Kralgund area of Handwara in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday morning. A police Official told The Kashmiriyat that 32 RR of Indian Army launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) at Kachlu village during wee hours of Friday. As soon as the troops intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a brief gunfight, he told adding that an army soldier suffered critical bullet wounds and was shifted to nearby military hospital for treatment. "The Soldier later succumbed to his Injuries and identified him as Rifleman Rambabu Sahi," he told The Kashmiriyat. Meanwhile locals told The Kashmiriyat that the searches were ongoing in the area to trace out the hiding militants.
