Nocturnal Raids Continue in South Kashmir, At Least 5 Youth Arrested

August 11 The Government forces raided the Rehpora Locality in Khudwani area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district and arrested youths during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that at least five youths have been arrested in the Khudwani locality when forces raided the Rehpora Village around 1230 in the night. They identified some of the youth as Junaid, Uzair, Ayaz Ahmed, Danish and said the Forces including Jammu Kashmir Police barged inside the houses of the youth and took them into detention. JKCSCC Calls for Complete shutdown on August 27

August 11 The Jammu Kashmir civil society coordination committee (JKCSCC) has called for a complete shutdown on August 27 against the attempts to abrogate the special status of Jammu Kashmir. “Safeguarding Article-35A is our responsibility. Every citizen of Jammu Kashmir, irrespective of caste and religion is ready to give up his life to defend the special status of Kashmir,” JKCSCC leader Mufti Nisar-ul-Islam said while addressing a Press conference in Srinagar. Pertinently the Supreme court of India has deferred the hearing on Article 35 A to August 27, a day after the conclusion of Annual Amarnath Yatra.

17 Civilians Killed this Year in Forces Firing in Shopian

August 11 As many as fourteen civilians have been killed in the firing of Government Forces in Shopian district alone. As per figures available to The Kashmiriyat Shopian District has been the worst hit, the district witnessed four civilian killings on a single day on March 4 at Pehnoo area. On 27 January, two civilians namely Javaid Ahmed and Suhail Ahmed were killed by government forces when army fired on a group of protesters at Ganopora area in Shopian. August 11 A Khilafwarzi Inspector has been suspended by the District administration Islamabad (Anantnag), ‘In view of his non-cooperation in stopping encroachment and removal of structures, and  other complaints. Search Operation Launched in Islamabad Town

August 11 A heavy Contingent of Government Forces has reached the Green Colony locality of Janglat Mandi area in the main town of South Kashmir's Islamabad District. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police have jointly launched a search operation in the Green Colony area in Janglat Mandi. The Forces have been doing rounds of the lanes and by-lanes in the area, however they have not barged into any houses as of yet. They have blocked the entry and the exit points to the Green Colony area, Locals said. When the Local Police official was contacted by The Kashmiriyat he said that there is no cordon in place. "The patrol has been enacted in view of the nearing 15 August (Indian Independence Day)," he said.

August 11 A complets shutdown is being observed in Langate area of Kupwara in North Kashmir to demand the Mortal remains of Muzaffar Ahmed who was killed in Rafiabad Gunfight on Wednesday. 29 Children among 50 Killed in Saudi Air Strikes on Yemen

August 11 Dozens of children, many younger than 15, were killed in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike that hit a school bus in northern Yemen on Thursday, according to reports. The children were on a field trip when their bus was struck at a market, the first stop of the day; 50 were killed and 77 injured. Most of the children were inside the bus when the airstrike hit, reports said. The International Committee for the Red Cross said a hospital it supports in Saada had received 29 bodies of "mainly children" younger than 15, and 40 injured, including 30 children.
