Police Seizes 1400 Kilos of Drugs

August 06 The Jammu Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have busted a major drug racket as they seized 1400 kilograms of poppy husk from a truck in Kathua district, reports said. Detailing the incident Jammu Kashmir Police said that a fruit laden truck was intercepted by a joint party of excise department and police at toll post in Lakhanpur bordering Punjab. A search of the Punjab-bound vehicle led to one of the biggest ever poppy husk haul, the Police officials said. Nocturnal Raids Continue in South Kashmir amid Clashes till 2 am

August 06 A youth was arrested by Government Forces during a nocturnal raid at Memander area of South Kashmir's Shopian district in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that youth identified as Shakeel Ahmed was arrested initially after which the Forces tried to enter other houses, however youth hit the streets pelting stones on Forces forcing them to flee from the area. They said that the forces later fired tear smoke shells and pellets on the protesting youth, however the clashes continued till 2 am midnight, but forces did not enter any houses later. They left the village around 2:10 am, a Local informed The Kashmiriyat. Police Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Shakeel has been arrested for questioning.
