Militant Killings- Protests Erupt in Amar Singh College, GDC Bemina

August 03 The Students of Amar Singh College and Government Degree College Bemina in Srinagar held protests against the killings of 13 militants in Kashmir on saturday. "The Students hit the streets to demand an end to the killing spree in Kashmir," a student told The Kashmiriyat. The student said that protest was also held in defence of Article 35-A. The students in large numbers shouted pro Independence and Pro Islam slogans, the students said. Meanwhile there are reports of sporadic clashes in the Bemina area of Srinagar.

August 04 A total of 9 Militants have been killed in three days in Jammu Kashmir in encounters with Government Forces. On Thursday (02 August) Two Local Militants were killed in the encounter that had raged in the Khumriyal area of North Kashmir's Kupwara District. The Militants allegedly opened fire when Indian Army laid a siege around a forest area in Khumriyal, Kupwara after which a brief gunfight raged. Two Militants were killed, One of them has been identified as 28 Year old, Bilal Ahmed from Shat Muqam area of Lolab in Kupwara District of North Kashmir. August 04 Militants on Saturday offered Gun Salute to slain Umar Malik at Malikgund area of South Kashmir's Shopian during his funeral. Umar was killed in an Encounter that erupted in South Kashmir’s Shopian District late night on Friday, Locals told The Kashmiriyat. They said that a group of 2-3 Militants appeared on the stage where Umar's corpse lay and fired in the air as a mark of respect to their slain colleague. Islamabad Shuts on the First Anniversary of Local Militant, Yawar Nisar

August 04 The Islamabad (Anantnag) areas including Main town, Achabal, Dislgam have shut to mourn the killing of Yawar Nisar- a local Militant on his first anniversary on Saturday. Shops, Educational Institutes, Oil Stations have shut in the area to mourn the killing of the Local Militant who was killed on 04 August last year in an encounter with Government Forces. Yawar Nisar- the 21 year old had been a Militant for less than 20 days before he was trapped in a gun battle that raged in Kanelwan area of the district. The call for shutdown has been issued by the Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir, who was taken into detention immediately after issuing a shutdown call.

Civilian Shot Dead in Clashes near Shopian Encounter Site, Says Police

August 04 A Civilian has been killed in Kiloora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian District during the clashes in the area, Police sources told The Media. The Civilian has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed, a resident of South Kashmir’s Kundalan area. Massive clashes had erupted in South Kashmir’s Shopian post the encounter that began at around 4:30 am in Shopian. At least 20 civilians have been injured in the clashes as confirmed by Hospital officials to The Kashmiriyat. 5 Militants have been killed in the ongoing Kiloora Encounter which raged late night on Friday. At least 15 Injured in Ongoing Clashes Near Shopian Encounter Site

August 04 At least 15 persons have been injured in the massive clashes that erupted in the areas nearby the encounter site at Kiloora in South Kashmir's Shopian District. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that people in droves of hundreds and thousands came out of their homes throwing stones on troops deployed in the area. The troops fired tear smoke shells and pellets go disperse the protesters, both women and men. "They also fired on protesters to disperse them," a local told The Kashmiriyat.
