No Helmet, No Fuel for Two Wheelers in Srinagar

September 05 Motorcyclists without helmets will be barred from buying petrol at filling stations in Kashmir capital Srinagar. An order issued here by District Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah said the large number of road accidents have been reported involving two wheelers in Srinagar city. “I, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS District magistrate, Srinagar hereby direct that all petrol pump owners operating in the territorial jurisdiction of the district Srinagar shall not provide fuel to the two wheelers who are without helmets. Any petrol pump owner found violating these orders shall be liable for punishment under relevant provisions of law,” the order read.

23 Missing after Boat Capsizes in Assam

September 05 One person drowned and 23 others are missing after a motorised country boat, carrying about 36 passengers, capsized in the Brahmaputra river near here on Wednesday, an official said. Twelve people swam to safety, and State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and NDRF personnel have recovered one body so far, Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kumar Baishya said, adding that rescue operations were underway. The incident occurred when the engine of the boat developed a snag and hit a rock near the bank of the Ashwaklanta Temple around 2 pm, he said. Only 22 passengers had valid tickets and the boat was overcrowded, with 18 motorcycles on it, Baishya, who was supervising the rescue operations at the site, said. No Encounter, Only Search Operation Going on in Baramulla- Says Police

September 05 The Government Forces on Wednesday launched a massive Cordon and Search Operation in the Taripora Forests of Baramulla in North Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched an Anti Militancy operation in the area. They said that following an input about Militant Presence in the area, the troops jointly launched a CASO. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that the forces rushed to the forest area and a massive search operation has started. "No Contact has been established with the Militants yet," a Police official said.

Woman among Two arrested for Killing Army man in Poonch

September 05 Almost four months after an Indian army jawan was killed during a scuffle over a land dispute in Poonch, the Jammu Kashmir police have arrested two persons, including a woman, in connection with the murder. Police said Wednesday that they have arrested Mohammad Alyas and Zanib Bi from Mendhar yesterday in connection with killing of the Army man. Army’s Defence Service Corps (DSC) unit soldier was critically injured during the scuffle at Chajjla village on May 5, he succumbed to injuries at a hospital on May 19. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Rajiv Pandey, had constituted a special team under the supervision of assistant superintendent of police, Anwar-ul Haq, for effecting the arrest of the accused, who were absconding.

Sopore Man dies of Electrocution, 4th Incident from North Kashmir in 48 Hours

September 05 SHABIR KHAN Mohammed Sultan Dar aged 55 became the fourth victim of electrocution in North Kashmir since the past 48 hours. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Sultan was repairing an electric line at his home in Neharpora area of Sopore when he was electrocuted. The family members rushed him to the nearby hospital in Sopore where the doctors delcared him 'Brought Dead.' Meanwhile the local police has taken a cognizance of this incident.

September 05 Former Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt was today arrested over a 1998 case. Bhatt was taken into custody following directives from the Gujarat High Court. The Gujarat CID, which took Bhatt into custody, has also detained six other people, including two former police officers. They are all being questioned. In 1998, Sanjiv Bhatt was serving as the DCP of Banaskantha when he was accused of trying framing a lawyer in a fake narcotics case. Sanjiv is popular on Twitter for being critical of the Government and its policies. 1 Militant Killed in Rajouri, Claims Army

September 05 The Indian Army on Wednesday claimed to have killed a Militant and foiled an infiltration bid along in Rajouri district of Jammu Kashmir along the Line of Control that divides Kashmir between India and pakistan. An official said that upon finding a suspicious movement along the Line of Control, the army started a search operation during which one Militant was located. Upon being located, the Forces tried to stop him, however he opened heavy fire on the Forces who retaliated resulting into the killing of the Militant. They also said that the body of the Militant has been handed over to local police.
