Focus on Studies, Not Guns, Says Jihad Council

October 14 Two days after Scholar turned Militant commander Manan Wahi was killed in an encounter in Kupwara, United Jihad Council, an amalgam of militant outfits  has put ban on the entry of students in militant outfits. General Secretary United Jihad Council Sheikh Jameel-ur-Rehman who also heads the militant outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujhadeen Saturday appealed students from Kashmir to stay away from armed struggle and concentrate on their studies. He said: “Youth are our valuable asset and if they don’t concentrate on their studies then those pro-India elements will find it easy to stretch the period of our thralldom. I request militant commanders as well to desist from giving training to budding students,” he said in a statement.

Teenage Girl Dies After Consuming Poison in Islamabad (Anantnag)

 October 14 A Girl (name with held) died after consuming a poisonous substance at her residence in Batgund area of Dooru in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. Locals informed The Kashmiriyat that a 18 year old girl who was a resident of Batagund locality of Dooru in district Islamabad on Sunday afternoon consumed poison. The Girl was rushed to the hospital in Dooru where the doctors declared her brought dead.

Kashmiri Students Being Harassed at AMU

October 14 Langate MLA Sheikh Abdul Rasheed was detained Sunday for taking out a protest march here in "solidarity" with Kashmiri students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)who were booked on sedition charges. Three Kashmiri students of the university were booked Friday for sedition for allegedly raising "anti-India" slogans and trying to hold a prayer meeting for Hizbul Mujahideen commander Manan Bashir Wani, who was killed in an encounter in north Kashmir Thursday. 2018 Saw a 90 Per cent Increase in Militancy Related Incidents

October 14 The current year, 2018 has seen more than 90 per cent increase in the militancy-related incidents against the last year. As per the figures submitted to the Parliament recently by the JK Police and army, the current year saw 244 militancy-related incidents till October 7, compared to last year’s 131. The Data also claims that 166 militants have been killed during anti-militancy operations till now, while the last year recorded 213 Militant killings. 74 among the 166 militants have been killed in south Kashmir among which 46 have been killed in Shopian alone. 6 Government Force personnel have also been killed till now in the state. Five Bandipora Youth Booked Under PSA

October 14 The Jammu Kashmir Police booked five persons under public safety act (PSA) in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district over charges of stone pelting on Saturday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that five persons who were booked under PSA  belong to Hajin, Kaloosa and Nusoo areas of the North Kashmir district and have been lodged in Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu. The youth have been identified as Farooq Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Ahmad Ganie, Sajad Hussain Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganai, Bilal Ahmad Ganie son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie, residents of Kaloosa, Muhammad Azhar Din resident son of Abdul Rahman Parray of Haji and Adil Bashir Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat a resident of Nusoo.

October 11 Tens of thousands of people raising pro independence and Pro Militancy slogans to reach Lolab to attend the funeral of slain Militant commander, Manan Wani on Thursday. Women and men in large numbers reached the home of Slain Militant in Lolab Kupwara. Manan was the son of Bashir Ahmad Wani and was pursuing his PhD in applied geology at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)  before he joined Militancy. The Kashmiriyat journalist Shabir Khan was stopped from reaching Lolab to cover the funeral of slain Militant, Manan Wani along with many other photographers and journalists. "We are being disallowed by Government Forces to enter into the Lolab area, we tried to tell them we are journalists, however they did not allow us," Shabir Khan said.

Militants Offer Gun Salute to Hurriyat Activist

October 11 Militants on Thursday offered gun salute to a Hurriyat activist who was shot dead by unknown gunmen this afternoon in Memander area of South Kashmir's Shopian District. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that a group of militants appeared in Shopian's Memander during the funeral prayers of slain Hurriyat activist Tariq Ahmad Ganie. The militants fired several shots in air to pay tribute to the slain activist. The Hurriyat Activist was abducted by unknown gunmen this afternoon and later shot dead near his home.

October 11 Unknown gunmen on Thursday shot dead a Hurriyat Activist in Memandar area of South Kashmir's Shopian District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that An activist of Hurriyat Conference namely Tariq Ahmad Ganie was shot at by unknown gunmen at Memendar area. Tariq was rushed to the hospital however upon reaching the hospital, he was declared dead. He was associated with Masarat Alam's Muslim League and was an Armed Militant till 1996. A police officer also confirmed the incident and said that the investigation in the case has been launched.

Manan wani Among Militants Killed in Handwara

October 11 Ph.d Scholar,  Manan Bashir Wani of Lolab, Kupwara who had joined Militancy earlier this year has been killed in the ongoing gunfight at Sotigam in Handwara area on North Kashmir's Kupwara District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that The gunfight broke out after a joint team of army’s 30 RR and SOG cordoned off Shatgund Balla area during wee hours of Thursday. A Police official confirmed that Two militants were killed in the operation adding one of slain is Manan Bashir Wani, a PhD scholar turned militant. The officer said the operation was concluded in the area.
