Frozen Lakes and Water Tapes, Kashmir Continues to Shiver under Immense Cold

December 29 The Kashmir valley yet another cold night as the  temperatures dipped to Minus 7.2 degrees Celsius in the Summer capital of Jammu Kashmir. A MET Department official told that the cold weather conditions are likely to continue for another four to five days with chances of snow in the first week of January. Pahalgam recorded temperature at minus 8.3 degree Celsius while it was minus 7 degree Celsius in Gulmarg. Even the maximum temperature recorded in Drass on Friday did not rise above the freezing point as it settled at minus 5.5 degree.

Clashes Erupt Near Encounter Site in Pulwama

December 29 As soon as the news of an encounter going on in Hajin of Pulwama spread in the nearby areas, hundreds of women and men came out of their houses and started marching towards the encounter site. ALSO READ: Another Encounter Rages in Pulwama Sources told The Kashmiriyat that early on Saturday morning in sub zero temperatures, people in large numbers came out of their households shouting Pro independence and Anti India slogans. The forces deployed in the area fired tear smoke shells upon the protesters to disperse them, however the clashes were going on when this report was filed.

Gunshots Heard in Pulwama Area

December 28 Massive Gunshots were heard in the Bellow area of Pulwama in South Kashmir late on Friday evening. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the firing was heard for nearly five minutes in the area, creating panic among the residents. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a sentry guarding a post of 183 BN of Central Reserve Police force camp in the Bellow area fired these shots after observing suspicious movement in the area.

Massive Fire Engulfs Pahalgam Market

December 28 Muzaffar Itoo Flames emerged from a shop in the main market of famous hill resort Pahalgam in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the flames emerged from a hotel in the area named Hotel Glacier and the fire immediately spread to the shops next to the building. However the locals and the Police reached the spot to douse off the flames along with the vehicles of the fire brigade services.
