The Kashmiriyat Photographer Injured While Covering Protest in Kunzer

December 28 A photographer working for The Kashmiriyat has been injured while covering street protests in Kunzer area of North Kashmir's Baramulla District. Sajad Hameed said that while he was covering a protest in the area, a Policeman deployed in the area hit him with a bamboo stick on his arm. Sajad was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where the doctors said he escaped a near fracture and has been severely injured. He was pertinently covering the protest staged by the family members of a youth who went missing on Thursday from the Kunzer area. IUST Suspends Classwork for Friday, Mobile Internet Suspended in Pulwama in wake of Militant Killing

December 28 Authorities on Friday suspended all the exams and class work at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) for “precautionary measures”. A spokesman of the varsity said that classwork has been suspended have been suspended today. Meanwhile Mobile internet services have been barred in Pulwama district against the killing of one Militant in Renzipora area of South Kashmir district.

Clashes Erupt at Lal Chowk of Islamabad (Anantnag)

December 28 Intense clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in Lal chowk area of south Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) township. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of youth shouting pro Independence and Anti India slogans hit the streets and threw stones on Forces deployed in the area. The forces deployed in the area fired tear smoke shells to disperse them, however the clashes were going on when this report was filed. Clashes Erupt in Kunzer, Two Including a Girl Injured

December 28 Sajad Hameed Two persons including a girl were injured when Government Forces fired tear smoke shells against protesters in Kunzer main market in North Kashmir's Baramulla District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of people including women gathered early morning in the main market of Kunzer to demand the whereabouts of a youth from the area. However upon gathering at the main market, the forces fired tear smoke shells at the protesters, injuring two of them. They were immediately shifted to the nearby hospital. Pertinently Shakir Mushtaq sheikh son of  Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Tuk Batpora in Kunzar went missing on Thursday after he left his home.

December 28 An encounter that raged between Government Forces and Militants in the Renzipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District ended with the killing of one local Militant. The Militant was identified as Ishfaq Ahmad wani son of late Mohammad Yousuf wani resident of Koil village of Pulwama district who had joined the Militant outfit Lashkar e Taiba in July. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Ishfaq whose father was a famous Militant commander from Pulwama was killed on 31 August 1996. 19 Killed in Sudan as People Protest Against Rise in Bread Prices, Journalists Go On Strike

December 28 Sudanese journalists went on strike on Thursday (Dec 27) in the wake of deadly protests against a rise in bread prices that the government says have left 19 people dead, including two members of the security forces. "Nineteen people lost their lives in the incidents including two from security forces" since the protests began on Dec 19, government spokesman Boshara Juma said on state television on Thursday. Most were killed during "incidents of lootings", while 219 people were wounded, he said. Nobody has been killed in the capital Khartoum, Juma said. Sudanese authorities had previously said that eight people have been killed in clashes, while Amnesty International has put the death toll at 37. December 28 One Militant has been killed in the exchange of gunfire between militants and Government forces at Renzipora area in Awantipora belt of South Kashmir's Pulwama District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat  that a team of 55 RR was fired upon by Militants in the Renzipora area, after which the Army retaliated to the firing. The Forces retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for at least fifteen minutes, as per sources. Sources told The Kashmiriyat  that a joint team of 55 RR, SOG, Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation at Renzipora area on Friday morning after Militants attacked a party of 55 RR earlier today.
