At least 285 Killed in Tsunami in Indonesia

December 24 At least 285 people have been killed in as a Tsunami following a volcanic eruption struck without warning into Indonesia's Sunda Strait on Saturday night, cutting a swathe of destruction and triggering mass panic as it swept inland. Hundreds of buildings were destroyed by the wave, which hit the coast of southern Sumatra and the western tip of Java late night on Saturday following the eruption of a volcano known as the "child" of the legendary Krakatoa, national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said. CASO Launched By Forces in Shopian Area

December 24 Following a specific input about Militant movement, the Government Forces jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the Heff area of South Kashmir's Shopian District. On the Monday morning, the forces including 44 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir police sealed all the entry and exit points to the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a heavy contingent of forces reached this Shopian locality and are conducting a search operation in the area. December 22 Soliha Mohammed Akhoon, 25 a resident of Arampora area in South Kashmir's Tral Hamlet and the closest aide of Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind, Zakir Rashid Bhat alias Musa was killed in an encounter with Government Forces on Saturday morning. December 22 At least five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and a policeman were injured in a grenade attack in Arwani area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag)district on Saturday.
