CASO Launched in Islamabad (Anantnag) Area, Clashes Erupt

December 22 Following a specific input about Militant movement, the Government Forces jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the Hassanpora area of  Arwani in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. On the afternoon of Saturday, the forces including  RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir police sealed all the entry and exit points to the Arwani area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a heavy contingent of forces reached this Islamabad (Anantnag) area locality and are conducting a search operation in the area. December 22 Lone Nawaz  Amid high pitched pro independence and Anti India Slogans, thousands of people attended the funeral of Slain Deputy of Zakir Musa in Tral area of South Kashmir. Participants told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday afternoon scores of youth carrying Zakir Musa portraits appeared in the funeral and shouted pro Independence, Pro Zakir Musa and Anti India Slogans. December 22 The Deputy Commissioner of South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) on Saturday  convened a meeting of the officers at Dak Bunglow Khanabal to review the arrangements for celebration of Indian Republic day. December 22 Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed that the six militants killed in a gunfight with the forces in Arampora village of Tral were involved in several attacks on ‘security establishments’. A police spokesman in a statement said, “based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Arampora area of Tral, a cordon and search operation was launched by forces in the area today morning. “As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. Minor Girl Dead, Eight Others Injured in a Road Accident in Kupwara

December 22 Rayees Shah An eight year old girl died in a road mishap in Thali area in Machil of North Kashmir’s Kupwara District on Saturday noon. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a passenger vehicle turned turtle near the Thali area of Kupwara resulting in the death of an eight year old girl while eight others sustained injuries. The identity of the deceased and the injured could not be confirmed immediately. He injured, however have been rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.

December 22 A bus carrying college students and their teachers back from an educational trip veered off a mountainous road and lunged into a ravine in Nepal, killing 23 people and injuring 14 others. The fatal crash occurred on Friday when the bus was returning from Kapurkot in Salyan district. According to the District Police Office, Dang, there were 37 persons 34 students, two teachers and a diver, on the ill-fated bus, which drove off the road and fell some 700 metres down near Ramri village, about 400 kilometres west of the capital Kathmandu. Fourteen persons, including five women, were injured in the incident. December 22 Police on Saturday morning identified all the six militants who were earlier killed in a brief encounter at Tral area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. A senior police officer said that all the slain militants are locals and were affiliated with Zakir Musa led group Ansar Ghazat-ul-Hind. High Speed Internet Snapped in South Kashmir, Train Services Suspended

December 22 On the directions of the authorities, cellular companies have snapped high speed internet in South Kashmir Districts of Valley. A telecom official told The Kashmiriyat that police directed them to snap high speed 3G and 4G mobile internet services in Islamabad (Anantnag) and Kulgam while high speed mobile internet was barred in Pulwama and Shopian Districts. “The direction was passed shortly after the Tral encounter, the mobile internet speed was reduced to 2G,” he said.
