Stone Pelting Clashes Erupt in Jammu, Policemen Injured

December 22 Ashraf Mir Stone throwing clashes erupted in Balicharana area of Jammu City on Saturday morning as hundreds of residents clashes with the Jammu Kashmir Police in the area. Kashmir Shivers Under Cold, Weather Expected to Remain Dry for At least 5 Days

December 22 A severe cold wave swept across the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region on Saturday as the temperatures dipped to minus 15.8 degrees Celsius at Leh. The 40-day long harsh winter period of Chillai Kalan started on Friday and will continue till January 30, Minimum temperature dropped several degrees below the freezing point. The temperatures recorded across the valley also dropped down. In Srinagar city it was minus 5.4, in Pahalgam minus 7.4 and in Gulmarg minus 6 degrees Celsius. Jammu city was at 3.9, Katra 5.8, Batote 1.3, Bannihal 0.7 and Bhaderwah minus 0.6 degrees Celsius.

Despite Killings, Warnings, Intense Clashes Erupt at Tral Encounter Site

December 22 Intense Clashes have erupted between protesters and government forces erupted in Arigam of Arampora area in Tral of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district where a gunfight between militants and forces is underway. A Local told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of protesters including women assembled and pelted stones on forces who responded to intense tear smoke shelling. Announcements are being made on loudspeakers in the mosques asking others to come out, a local told The Kashmiriyat. ALSO READ: 4 Militants Killed in Ongoing Tral Encounter People in large numbers from adjacent areas shouting pro independence and pro Militancy slogans are trying marching towards the encounter site. Meanwhile Train services have been suspended in the South Kashmir region.

December 22 An encounter has raged between militants and Government forces at Arigam area of Arampora in Tral sub district of South Kashmir's Pulwama District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat  that a joint team of 42 RR, SOG, Police and 180 BN of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation at Arigam area on Saturday morning after receiving inputs about presence of some militants in the area. December 21 The PHE and I&FC Departments today ordered confirmation of the promotion of 180 Junior Engineers, who have been since placed against higher posts. The promotions were cleared at the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting convened at JKPSC here today. Secretary PHE, I&FC, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Members for Public Service Commission and other concerned officers were present at the meeting. December 21 The chairman of Peoples Conference Sajad Gani Lone on Friday ruled out any pre-poll alliance for the assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir. Lone was speaking to media in Srinagar as former PDP leader and lawmaker Abid Ansari joined Peoples Conference. “We will not enter into pre-poll alliance with any regional or national party,” he said, and added that PC will fight elections from all 87 seats. Lone said that he will support National Conference’s autonomy proposal on a condition that if the party identifies those who eroded it. “They should identify them and keep them away.”
