Man who Served Shopian Jamia Masjid for 15 Years Passes Away, Demise Widely Condoled

January 21 The former president of Jamia Masjid Shopian, Master Nazir Ahmed Khan breathed his last on Sunday evening after a brief illness. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Nazir Ahmed Khan who fought for protecting the genuine interests of Jamia Masjid shopian breathed his last yesterday at SKIMS. Many social and religious organizations have expressed grief over his demise. "The deceased was pious and embodiment of many virtues and as such his death has been mourned by a large section of society," Mufti Tariq who is a renowned preacher of Shopian district said. Income Tax Threshold to be Doubled to 5 Lakh

January 21 The Indian Finance Minister is contemplating to double the income tax exemption threshold from the present Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, for the salaried class, sources said. Currently, income up to Rs 2.5 lakh is exempt from personal income tax. Income between Rs 2.5-5 lakh attracts 5 percent tax, while that between Rs 5-10 lakh is levied with 20 percent tax. Income above Rs 10 lakh is taxed at 30 percent. Rs 5 lakh exemption is only applicable to individuals of over 80 years. Sources said that the decision has been taken to bring parity between tax payers after the government’s decision to implement 10 percent reservation in jobs and educational institutions for the economically backward section in the general category. (PTI)

January 21 A cordon and search operation has been launched by Government Forces in Baramulla District of North Kashmir. Jammu Kashmir Police Launches Drive Against Child Labour- Rescues 7 Children

January 21 Jammu Kashmir Police has launched a special drive against child labour in the state’s Katra city and rescued seven children, an official said Monday. Vaishno Devi Pilgrim Dies of Cardiac Arrest

January 21 A 55-year-old Vaishno Devi pilgrim from Gujarat died after apparently suffering a cardiac arrest in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday. Parkash Bhai, a resident of Ahmedabad, fell unconscious on reaching his hotel room at Katra last evening after paying obeisance at the shrine, a police official said. Charar e Sharif Encounter- No Dead Body Found yet, Militant Hideout Busted

January 21 The firing between militants and government forces at during the charar-e-Sharif encounter in  central Kashmir’s Budgam district has stopped. The Government Forces including Indian army’s 53 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation following credible input about the presence of two to three militants hiding in the hideout. During the CASO, the forces were fired upon, which led to an encounter, the firing continued for many hours, however no dead bodies have been found as of yet, an official said. He said that the government forces have been able to bust a hideout of the militants in the mountainous area in Hapatnad area of Charar e Sharif." Meanwhile a search operation is still going in the area which is under a thick blanket of snow.

Deputy Mayor of Srinagar injured after councillor hits him

January 21 The Deputy Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Sheikh Imran was injured in a brawl in Srinagar's SMC office. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the Deputy Mayor was injured when a councilor threw some object at him during councilor session of SMC on Monday. Sheikh Imran was injured and was immediately hifted to police hospital where he got one stitch also. A senior police official confirmed the incident and said that a case was being registered and further action would be taken up accordingly.

Negligence of Doctor at Lal Ded Hospital led to the Death of Baby

January 21 The enquiry committee formed to probe the recent delivery and subsequent demise of a new born baby outside Lal ded hospital has found that the doctor on duty did not follow the Standard Operating Procedure by not admitting the patient. “.. unfortunately the doctor on duty went against the SOP for referrals by not admitting the patient,” concludes the report prepared by the committee that probed the case. PDD Employee Electrocuted in Baramulla

January 21 Shabir Khan An employee of Power Development Department was electrocuted on Monday morning in north Kashmir’s Barmaulla district. Sources told The Kashiriyat that Mohammad Sultan, a resident of Sheeri Baramulla, was electrocuted while repairing an electric line at Sheeri. He was working as an inspector with Jammu Kashmir Government's Power Development Department.
