At least 20 Militants Appear in Shopian Village, Offer Gun salute to Zeenat ul Islam

January 16 Panic gripped Sugan area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday as massive firing was heard in the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a group of at least 20 armed Militants appeared in Sugan on the Chauhram of slain Zeenat ul Islam and offered gun salute to the slain commander. The Militants appeared in the Sugan village of Shopian on Wednesday afternoon and fired several rounds in the air as a mark of respect to Zeenat ul Islam. Meanwhile hundreds of people visited the houses of slain militants on their Chauhram. Zeenat ul Islam and his colleague Shakeel Ahmed Dar were killed in an encounter with Government Forces in Kulgam district  on Saturday night. Police officials however said that they had no information about any incident as such.

Residents of Repora Ganderbal Facing Water, Electricity Crisis

January 16 Rayees Shah The Residents of Repora in Lar area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district staged a protest demonstration against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and PDD department. They blocked Sumbal -Manigam highway at Repora area of Ganderbal on Wednesday morning. "Our locality is without drinking water and electricity from past several days. We made frequent requests in this connection before concerned authorities but to no avail,” a protester said while speaking to The Kashmiriyat. Later, officials reached on the spot and assured the protesters that the issue would be take up with the concerned authorities. After assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.

2 die after fall while flying kites in Hyderabad

January 16 A 11-year-old boy and a man died while another boy was injured after falling from buildings in separate kite flying incidents here in the past three days In the fatal incident, the boy fell from the third floor of a building in Habeebnagar. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital on Monday. In another incident on Sunday, a 27-year-old man, a scrap dealer, suffered head injuries. He had fallen from the terrace of a two-storied building while flying kite in Warasiguda. He died on the same day at a hospital without responding to treatment. A nine-year-old boy who was flying kite suffered injuries after he slipped and fell down from the second-floor of a building. Police said that he had been hospitalized.

Over 2,300 women to Perform Hajj this year without ”Mehram”: Naqvi

January 16 Over 2,300 Muslim women from India will go on Haj this year without ‘Mehram’ or male companion as all those who applied under this category have been exempted from the lottery system, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Wednesday. The Modi government had last year allowed women going to Haj without Mehram, which had resulted in about 1,300 Muslim women going for the pilgrimage without any male companion. January 16 The Government Forces jointly reached Danagar Mohalla of Hajin in North Kashmir's Bandipora District. The forces including 13 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and SOG have sealed all the entry and exit points to Danagar Mohallah. Amid snowfall, they have launched a cordon and search operation in the area. Pakistan Forces Kill Three Taliban Militants including top Commander

Those killed in the exchange of fire include Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Islam and Mohibullah who were allegedly involved in November bombings which killed 31 people including Sikhs.. Ration Scam Unearthed in Srinagar

January 16 The Jammu Kashmir on Wednesday unearthed a major ration scam and arrested the accused who would repack the government supply of Rice, and flour to be sold in the name of ‘Apple Brand’. Officials said that they have arrested one accused from Srinagar’s Bemina area. He has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Nath of Bemina. “He was selling rice (govt supply) after replacing the same in fake Apple Brand bags,” officials said. They added that they had received the complaint on on January 15. Police raided the place and arrested the accused and seized 74 bags of rice and 02 bags of atta flour. The official said that in this connection FIR was registered & investigation taken up.
