Air Traffic Resumes on Srinagar Airport after 24 Hours

January 05 The runway at Srinagar airport has been cleared of snow for the takeoff and landing of flights which was affected due to the overnight snowfall. Officials in ‘Project Beacon’ said that about one feet of snow had accumulated on the airport runway due to which flights were halted. Beacon officials said that its team through their strenuous efforts ensured zero accumulation on the main runway. They said that the airport has been cleared off for traffic after more than 24 hours.

Man Falls to Death While Clearing Snow from Rooftop in Bandipora

January 05 A man slipped to death when he was clearing snow on the roof top of his house in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Mumtaz Ahmed of ward 4 in Bandipora town. Ahmad died after he fell down from the roof top of his house when he was clearing snow. He was rushed to Srinagar Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, witnesses said. Meanwhile the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary announced assistance to the bereaved family . “We extended assistance of Rs 4 Lakh and our team is with them in this hour of grief,” Deputy Commissioner tweeted.

6 School Children Killed in Bus Accident at Himachal Pradesh

January 05 Seven people, including six schoolchildren, were killed and 12 injured on Saturday when a private school bus rolled down a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, police said. The accident occurred in Sangrah town on Saturday morning. A private bus carrying students of DAV School fell into a gorge. Seven people — six schoolchildren and the bus driver — were killed, Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, Rohit Malpani said. The twelve people injured in the accident have been hospitalized. The condition of some of them is critical, he said, adding more details are awaited.
